What is the most important environmental issue we face today?
Nuclear energy and the fact that we use it to power a lot of things on the plant. Nuclear is what i think, the most toxic thing on this planet. It wipes out cities (Chernobyl) and makes the cities abandoned for years and years.
I read in an article called "7 Cons of Nuclear Energy", "The fear of a repeat is so great that despite all the safety arrangements touted by the nuclear equipment operators and suppliers, Nuclear Energy faces an uncertain future."
When a nuclear reactor fails, there is a huge impact on the areas around it. Chernobyl happened over 20 years ago and till this day you cant go around the power plant, it is still insanely toxic.
There is a very high risk that a huge disaster like Chernobyl or Fukushima can happen again. Why would we want to take the risk?
There are over 100 nuclear power plants in the united states today, something like Chernobyl can happen any day here, and it will have a bigger impact since there are so many people here in the united states.
I understand that nuclear energy is an easy way to power our planet, but it is a huge environmental hazard and a huge environmental issue.
I think we as a plant should get ride of nuclear energy as a whole, over time since it is so powerful and can easily contaminate things. It is unhealthy for the people who work with it, the people who live around it, and the people who use it to power their own world.
We need to make a difference when it comes to nuclear energy, it will take time to make the difference but at least we can get a step closer to having a less contaminated world.

point but there are advantages to nuclear, not many but, i still think you have a good point
ReplyDeleteIt would help your argument if you argued the fact that when there is a nuclear meltdown that land is toxic for 1,000 years. It drives millions of people out of their homes and they cant return to that land until its all cleaned out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. If we become too reliant on nuclear energy, then it will become a bigger problem.
ReplyDeleteThe comic at the top really caught my attention. I also agree with you when you say that nuclear energy is the worst thing that can happen to us. You should have explained how the ground stays toxic for a thousand years and about all of the things that can happen when people are exposed to nuclear radiation and so fourth. It would have been more interesting if you explained how children can get birth defects and other things from being around the radiation while they're in their mothers belly. But over all, you made some good points, we need to stop nuclear power plants.

ReplyDeleteI really liked this blog because it shows good information. I agree with you when it comes to nuclear being the worst. No land should be toxic for 1,000 years and children shouldn't be born with birth defects because of one accident. I also liked the photo you used because it explained the nuclear power well and how you cant really escape an accident.
