Nuclear energy comic 

What is the most important environmental issue we face today? 

Nuclear energy and the fact that we use it to power a lot of things on the plant. Nuclear is what i think, the most toxic thing on this planet. It wipes out cities (Chernobyl) and makes the cities abandoned for years and years. 

I read in an article called "7 Cons of Nuclear Energy", "The fear of a repeat is so great that despite all the safety arrangements touted by the nuclear equipment operators and suppliers, Nuclear Energy faces an uncertain future."

When a nuclear reactor fails, there is a huge impact on the areas around it. Chernobyl happened over 20 years ago and till this day you cant go around the power plant, it is still insanely toxic. 

There is a very high risk that a huge disaster like Chernobyl or Fukushima can happen again. Why would we want to take the risk? 

There are over 100 nuclear power plants in the united states today, something like Chernobyl can happen any day here, and it will have a bigger impact since there are so many people here in the united states. 

I understand that nuclear energy is an easy way to power our planet, but it is a huge environmental hazard and a huge environmental issue.

I think we as a plant should get ride of nuclear energy as a whole, over time since it is so powerful and can easily contaminate things. It is unhealthy for the people who work with it, the people who live around it, and the people who use it to power their own world. 

We need to make a difference when it comes to nuclear energy,  it will take time to make the difference but at least we can get a step closer to having a less contaminated world.

Nuclear vs. Foreign and Domestic Oil 

Personally, I feel that nuclear is way worse than Foreign or Domestic Oil. 

Well we have to know what each are first to even decided which is worse. Nuclear is when you basically split atoms apart to get a very toxic substance. Foreign Oil is oil that we get from other countries. Domestic Oil is oil that we get from our own country. 

Foreign oil has caused huge wars between the United States and foreign countries like Afghanistan. Domestic oil has cause huge disasters in areas like the gulf of Mexico. Like the Exxon Valdez. 

In my opinion, nothing is worse than the after math of a nuclear accident. 

There was something that happened in 1986 called Chernobyl, and it still affects the world today. At this very moment. Chernobyl was a nuclear power plant that had a reactor that exploded. Which cause the radiation the leak into the atmosphere and into the surrounding towns and areas. 

As said in a youtube video called Chernobyl & Pripyat 2007, "The meltdown of the nuclear reactor of Chernobyl is possibly the worst technological accident in history."

Also there was Fukushima in Japan, 2011. As said in an article about Fukushima, "... the explosion at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant has elevated fears of nuclear fallout. Some are putting the accident on level just below Chernobyl."

Chernobyl wiped out a whole town, Fukushima has harmed a lot of japan. Nuclear is extremely dangerous and we have 104 nuclear power plants in the united states. I would choose Foreign & Domestic oil over Nuclear any day.

Fracking?

Fracking vs Coal

 Well, first we would have to know what the two are. Fracking is the process of drilling and putting fluid into the ground in order to fracture shale rock. This will release natural gases. Now in order to get coal, they have two process for it. underground mining, where they drill into the earth, and strip mining, when they blow the top off of mountains. In my opinion, coal is a better way to get energy than fracking. There are a lot of chemicals involved when it comes to Fracking.  On the website www.dangersoffracking.com, they state "Up to 600 chemicals are used in tracking fluid, including known carcinogens and toxins such as Lead, Uranium, Mercury, Radium, etc." These chemicals escape from the pipes underground & get into groundwater that people use on a day to day basis. Now when it comes to coal mining, there are a lot of workers involved. If they are doing the underground mining, they can get black lungs, from inhaling all of the coal dust. But in reality, i feel that Fracking affects more people in the long run than coal does. Fracking hits a lot of people, directly in their homes, with their water. So when it comes to Fracking vs. Coal, Fracking is worse for the planet.

Coal?

Is global warming man made or is it a man made myth? I personally believe that global warming is a myth. The earth changes daily, naturally. It was creating huge environmental changes before humans even started living their day to day lives, why would we be the reason for all of these climate changes all of a sudden. I read on NewJersey.com something titled Manmade global warming is a hoax, written by Michael McCarthy. He stated "Manmade global warming is a hoax! Fifteen thousand years ago, New York Harbor was covered with an ice sheet a mile thick. The hills, rocks, and islands of New England are residuals and the 600 foot rise in sea level a result of the natural warming of the planet." I also think that over time, with the evolution of technology, people have become more easily tricked into thinking that global warming is caused only by humans & their activity on the planet. After watching The Day After Tomorrow , I realized that hollywood can easily create a dramatic movie and have people thinking that global warming is going to wipe out the planet.   During this movie, they were drilling holes in the ice to create ice cores, where they can look back thousands of years and see the Co2 levels in the air. If they do this, they can probably notice thousands of different drastic climate changes over time, way before humans became what they are today. So is global warming manmade or a myth? I still believe it is a myth.
